Montero Sport overview

The Montero Sport has been one of Mitsubishi's anchors in the Philippine SUV market for years, and it remains a body-on-frame diesel seven-seater. MMPC's August 2026 list has four versions: GLX 2.4D 2WD M/T at ₱1,568,000, GLS 2WD A/T at ₱1,927,000, Black Series 2WD A/T at ₱2,190,000 and Black Series 4WD A/T at ₱2,530,000. The old range-topping GT is gone, so the Black Series 4WD is now the flagship.

All versions use the 2.4-liter 4N15 MIVEC turbodiesel, rated by MMPC at 181 PS. MMPC's site lists 430 Nm in one place and 450 Nm in another, so confirm the figure for your variant on the dealer's spec sheet. The GLX has a six-speed manual, and the rest get an eight-speed automatic with a sport mode. The 4WD model uses Super Select 4WD-II, which lets you shift between 2H, 4H and 4HLc at up to 100 km/h, handy when a dry highway turns into a muddy road in the middle of a typhoon. Philkotse lists the SUV at 4,825 mm long with 218 mm of ground clearance.

Compared with its rivals, the Montero Sport is usually the cheapest way into this class. The GLX manual undercuts the entry Ford Everest by about ₱380,000, though it is a basic, manual-only version. The GLS automatic is the trim most families will consider. The Black Series 4WD makes sense only if you will use four-wheel drive on farm roads or beach trips, since it costs ₱340,000 more than the 2WD Black Series. On paper it out-muscles the Everest's 2.0-liter (168 hp, 405 Nm) but falls well short of the Everest Platinum's V6 (247 hp, 600 Nm), so test the eight-speed automatic on a hill before deciding. White Diamond paint adds ₱15,000.

Who it is for: Families and business owners who want a diesel, body-on-frame seven-seater with real 4WD available, at a lower price than most rivals.
